"THE BEGINNING"
The ministry in Belize actually began in 2006 when I was asked by a friend to help design and build a church in Maschal, a small village in the northern part of Belize. Since then my life has never been the same. I knew when I left after completing the work on that church, that I would be going back again. I had fallen in love with the people and felt God was leading me into another area of ministry, I didn't know exactly where He was taking me. Over the next few years I made several trips to Belize searching and seeking what direction the Lord was leading. I didn't want to motivated by my emotions instead I wanted to follow the leading of the Lord. I’ll explain as I go along. Time passed and on June 18, 2009 I began working with another church to help them establish a ministry presence in Belize in the center of the country close to the capital city of Belmopan. Since 2013 to the present, Destiny has had a presence in the small village of Independence in the southern District of Stann Creek. We are in the process of completing a Multi-faceted building that can be used as a launching pad for various Ministries that “Destiny” will be launching as well as serving the community and Nation through other venues. Here’s how it all began now 18 years ago...
From 2009 until 2012 God had opened up some amazing doors as we met and worked to build relationships with some of the Government Officials especially in the area of Human Services. Because of those efforts God has given us tremendous favor with those Officials which continues today. I won’t go into a lot of detail here as most of it will come in the pages that follow. During the early stages of my meetings with them I soon discovered a need that no one had addressed or even attempted to meet, maybe because they didn’t bother to find out so they had no way of knowing. As I soon learned the missionaries that had a presence in Belize, some for a number of years, were primarily concentrating on the smaller children through orphanages and schooling and were basically meeting the need for them while another group of Youth were falling through the crack. The Government has a Foster Care Program in place and I soon learned no one was meeting the transitional needs of the youth aging out of the Foster Care System. I discovered the 18 year old's were being turned loose on the streets to fend for themselves doing whatever, and I do mean whatever, they had to do just to survive. After numerous meetings with the Government Officials in regards to the problem the Vision of “The Bridge Life Training Center” at Destiny Lodge was birthed in my spirit. The Center would help them transition from dependency in the system to Independence. Early on we just called it a Life Training Center but since our goal is to help them Bridge the Gap or cross the divide so to speak we felt like “The Bridge Life Training Center” was more appropriate. There’s actually more to the name now than there was in the beginning as you’ll soon learn.
While I had no way of knowing exactly what that Vision would ultimately look like or where the facility would eventually be located I trusted that God would close doors He needed to close and open doors He needed to open so the Dream and Vision of His calling could be fulfilled for these Young Adults. In 2011 God had already begun a work in the heart of a Spirit Filled Man, Emilio Zabaneh, in the Southern part of Belize who felt a need to do something for the Youth of his village of Independence. CLICK HERE! to see Email #1 that I received from him on July 7, 2011. You can tell from the email that he loves the Youth of the Village and where his heart is as it pertains to them.
As Emilio continued to pray and seek God, so did we knowing God had a definite plan for “Destiny”, but did not know at that time where it would eventually take us. We leaned on Jeremiah 29:11 knowing He had our Destiny in His hands and adopted it as our ministry scripture. Things began to change and unknown to me at the time the work we were doing with the other church we had been working with was coming to an end. They were now ready to assume full responsibility and control of the ministry we were helping them establish and were looking forward to having full time missionaries on the ground. All the while the foundation for the future of "The Ministries of Destiny Belize" was being laid. At first it was a little scary because the magnitude of what we were feeling God had called us to do. What we were feeling that needed to be accomplished was enormous and we had absolutely no churches or individuals backing the ministry at that time. However, I knew if it was God all we had to do was trust in Him and He would meet any and every need we had or would ever have and that’s exactly what He’s done. After all it's His ministry and He birthed it in my spirit and I’ve even asked many times, “WHY ME LORD?”
On December 12, 2012 I received another email from Emilio, CLICK HERE! to read his email. I won’t take the time to go through it either but you’ll understand once you’ve read the Mission and Vision of Destiny on the pages that follow. I pray you can see and feel what God has been doing in preparation for what is on the horizon. It has been exciting to watch as He moves, provides and brings individuals into our life to partner with “Destiny” as a part of what He is doing and has in store for these Young Adults.
Over the next several months as the ministry we were involved in at Belmopan was coming to a close the ministry we were to launch as “Ministries of Destiny Belize” was beginning to take shape. I had made a trip to Belize during the fall of 2013 and then again at Christmas time to visit with Emilio and help him provide Christmas for the Children and Youth of his church and the Village. Churches like Lakewood and Gateway and so many others have been instrumental in helping us by sponsoring Construction and Ministry Teams, financial support and with Christmas Gifts for the children. CLICK HERE! to see a copy of an email from Emilio dated December 13, 2013.
After the visit in 2013 we felt this was indeed the door that God had opened and wanted us to move in. We felt we were to partner with Emilio and committed first and foremost to building the multi-faceted facility that would become the launching pad for so many other ministry opportunities. As I’m writing this I can say the church is close to being finished and is 100% debt free. We lack just a little more on the actual construction of the church and we need to get the kitchen outfitted and the furnishings for the auditorium and the café area.
On the following pages you will find our hearts desire to see fulfilled what God has so amazingly orchestrated beginning in 2006. Additional Information is available and I’ll be glad to meet with anyone on a personal basis to go into more detail.
The last paragraph of Emilio’s email dated December 13, 2013 states this, “These are the Dreams and Vision’s we’d like you to partner with us on seeing come alive for the Kingdom, my brother.” That is also our desire and request for you is that you’ll seek God as to how he would have you partner with Destiny to see the dreams and visions of Destiny be fulfilled as we provide a better life for the Youth coming out of the Foster Care Program in Belize. I will always remain......
